SSFE’s second design, The Mach 6, is an Electric Ducted Fan (EDF) powered RC aircraft. Based loosely on the BVM Kingcat V2, this aircraft is projected to reach over 100 MPH by the end of the design cycle. Utilizing retractable landing gear, swept wings, and weight-reducing carbon fiber, this aircraft will build upon our previous knowledge of aircraft design to push us faster than before.
SSFE successfully completed its first flight test of the aircraft in April of 2026 at the RELLIS Airstrip. SSFE plans to return to RELLIS with the Mach 6 in late 2026, but with a refined inlet and empanage design. These design changes will theoretically push us closer to our goal of going faster than before.
SSFE’s 2nd aircraft Mach 6 took off from Rellis Airfield Runway in Bryan, TX at 6:45 PM CST. Mach 6 flew 1 standard lap like a standard air traffic pattern with 4 basic turns.
Mach 6 successfully landed after one lap. The final recorded ground speed was 76 mph.
This was the first flight test of The Mach 6. The video captures the aircraft's performance during the test.
Overall, the flight was successful with some minor issues identified. We received really valuable feedback for future improvements.
