SSFE is an Aggie-run student organization dedicated to developing aircraft in the pursuit of setting new airspeed records. Through a collaborative design process, members learn to apply concepts in aerodynamics, structural analysis, and avionics/propulsion to achieve high-speed flight.
SSFE Engineers have completed their first build - the Miles Mk.1! They are now in the process of designing and building Design 2 (The Mach 6), in which they have had their first test flight. There is much more to improve on, where members are working to refine and enhance the aircraft's performance. There will be another test flight for The Mach 6 coming up in the fall semester.
Our target speed to surpass will be determined at the start of each design cycle, and the following two semesters will be spent on aircraft development.
Amidst all of SSFE's successes and failures, we seek to foster a collaborative environment that demonstrates to our members what participating in an engineering project is all about from both a technical and interpersonal perspective.
